Temperature Controlled DC Fan

Age Group 8+

Optimum usage of electricity is one of the major points of concern and reason for huge electricity bills. Do you know that our simple bad habit of forgetfulness or a little lazy nature can cause massive harm to our environment? What if there is a solution possible with technology? Yes, you can build a temperature-controlled DC fan.

This special fan can sense the temperature level in the atmosphere and automatically gets switched on and off. The ability to turn itself on when the ambient temperature increases above a certain limit makes this fan very special. These fans work as the coolants for humans and as the automated cooling process facilitators for other machines. We have similar fans set up in our computers that sense the machine’s increased temperature and start automatically to get the machine cooled.

How Does it Work?

This project works on the principle of analog to digital conversion. We simply use LM35  and one fan as a cooler. The circuit in the kit exploits the property of the thermistor to operate the DC Fan. A thermistor is a kind of temperature-dependent resistor, and its resistance varies depending on the temperature in its vicinity. When the temperature increases above the set limit, the sensor produces a signal and automatically turns on the cooling fan. The circuit is a 0-100°C electronic temperature-controlled relay that can be controlled with an LM35 temperature sensor.
